Welcome back!
Welcome to my website! My name is Mrs. Hazlett and I am the 6th grade science teacher. I have worked at Newport Grammar for 5 years and have enjoyed getting to know all the students and staff. I am the mother of four beautiful children, ages 15, 12, 8, and 1. I have a bachelors degree in International Business and a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies! I have always enjoyed learning and I hope to pass the love of learning on to the students I will teach. Teaching of all kinds is my passion and my hope is that I can positively impact the students that walk through my door every day. I am so grateful for this opportunity.
Standard: 6.LS2.5 Analyze existing evidence about the effect of a specific invasive species on native populations in Tennessee and design a solution to mitigate its impact.
This week we are wrapping up our invasive species research projects. Students researched an invasive species found in TN and completed a research template. They were to find out where the species in native to, what it looks like, what its role is in its native environment, how it invades in its non-native environment, how it impacts the new ecosystems and native populations, how to stop the spread, and how to get rid of existing populations of the invasive species. The students then created a ¨Wanted¨ poster for their invasive species. The posters will be hung up around the room and will be used for a gallery walk. The purpose of the gallery walk is for students to get familiar with more than one invasive species found in TN. Finally, students will work in groups to come up with a community action plan that will help get rid of or slow down (mitigate) their invasive species impact.
