Whether you are a first year, second year, or just new to our district we want to ensure success for you. To do this we have established a mentoring program to act as a professional development guide throughout the next couple of years.
Richard Branson states our goal best when he states:
Congratulations on being selected as a mentor! You have been given the opportunity to impact the development and success of a new educator or a new educator to our district. This responsibility should not be taken lightly! As a mentor your relationship, collaboration, and support can truly make a difference.
Check-in with your mentee regularly
Discuss & clarify general concerns or questions
Ask guiding and reflecting questions
Build relationships with your mentee and other mentors/ mentees
Maintain and spread a positive attitude at all times!
Assist mentee through the Mentee Program according to their years of experience
Discuss all of the criteria with your mentee
Welcome! You are now a Mustang and we are so excited to have you join our team! You have been paired with a mentor to help make the transition as seamless as possible. Please feel free to reach out to other teachers, your instructional coach, and administration along the way.
Ask questions
Reflect on your teaching practices
Take risks
Build relationships with your mentor and other staff in the building
1st & 2nd-year teachers - complete district requirements including participating in the book study "Your First Year".
New to the district - complete district requirements including regular meetings with your mentor and instructional coach. New to-district employees are welcome to participate in the "Your First Year" book study but are not required.
Dissolving a Mentor / Mentee partnership: If a problem between the mentor and the new beginning educator arises, a discussion will take place with the instructional coach. The instructional coach will help mediate the situation, but if no resolution can be found, the building administrator will be notified. If no resolution can be found after discussing the situation with the administrator, the building administrator will work to dissolve the relationship by finding a different mentor for the beginning teacher. The new mentor will have to go through the application process. If the new mentor that is assigned in this situation has not been trained, a training plan will be developed to ensure a quality mentoring relationship.
