Carpe Diem!
"The Laughing Heart"
by Charles Bukowski
your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.
"A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone." – Henry David Thoreau
“Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify, simplify.” – Henry David Thoreau
"Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience." – Henry David Thoreau
“The sun shines today also.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature
“Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” – Henry David Thoreau
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms.” – Henry David Thoreau
“Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.” – Henry David Thoreau
“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.” – Henry David Thoreau
"Any fool can make a rule, and any fool will mind it." – Henry David Thoreau
“Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.” – Henry David Thoreau
“I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” – Henry David Thoreau
"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead
where there is no path and leave a trail." – Henry David Thoreau
“All good things are wild and free.” – Henry David Thoreau
“Standing on the bare ground,--my head bathed by the blithe air and uplifted into infinite space,--all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eyeball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part or parcel of God.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature and Selected Essays
“Every generation laughs at the old fashions, but follows religiously the new.” – Henry David Thoreau
“Be yourself—not your idea of what you think somebody else's idea of yourself should be.” – Henry David Thoreau
