Gifted &Talented (“GT”) program is one of many efforts at the Neenah Joint School District to better meet students’ individual learning needs. Students at all functional levels need to be challenged and provided with opportunities to make the most of their learning experiences. The purpose of the GT program is to bring about the best match between the student’s level of skill or ability and what our curriculum can offer that child.
Neenah School Districts Facilitator, Val Cleveland, has been working with gifted students in the Neenah School District for nineteen years. Prior to being in Neenah, she taught ten years as a regular classroom teacher. She also holds a Gifted & Talented Certification through Baylor University and has completed a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction through National Louis University. She has well over twenty years of experience in working with gifted students.
Individual differentiation is a hallmark of the GT Program. Differentiation for gifted students may occur in three ways:
• Academic Acceleration - The student is placed appropriately within the existing curricular scope of programming offerings.
• Content Modification - Some aspect of the regular program is modified to meet the learning needs of the student.
• Extended Learning Experiences - A new Learning experience is developed to match the student's ability and interest levels. Programs include HOT problems, College Day for Kids, NUMATS, Destination Imagination, Project Citizen, FIRST Lego League (Robotics) etc.
Core Values:
Neenah's Gifted and Talented Program for high ability students reflects the community's support for educational excellence and our desire to individualize learning to the greatest extent possible for all students.
"I am student advocate, a resource for teachers, a planner and provider of differentiated programming for gifted and talented students at Neenah School District. I am also responsible for the screening students who may need GT services. I offer seminars and workshops on topics related to the unique needs of gifted students.
