NEBO YOUTH ORCHESTRAS INFORMATION
(2023-24)
The Nebo Youth Orchestra was founded in the 2008-09 school year and has expanded to become the Nebo Youth Philharmonic (grades 10-12) and the Nebo Youth Sinfonia (grades 7-10). The group is open to students participating in Nebo District high school orchestra and band programs. Its purpose is to enhance school music programs within Nebo District and provide an advanced full orchestra, semi-professional experience to students as they rehearse and perform in a spirit of collaboration. As such, the group is led by multiple directors from across the district and musical disciplines. Performances are evening events at local high schools throughout the district. Other performances for the Nebo Youth Orchestra include the state Youth Symphony Festival at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City in March and a District-wide Tour in February.
Tuition is $100 for the entire year. We are very grateful to the Nebo School District that has supplemented funding for our group to keep this experience affordable!
Students must be active participants in their school’s orchestra or band program in order to participate, and homeschoolers are welcome. Since this ensemble only rehearses once per week, consistent attendance and individual practice are essential! The rehearsal schedule between concerts is similar to the schedules one would find in adult semi-professional ensembles such as the Utah Valley Symphony and Salt Lake Symphony. This is an excellent opportunity for students to expand their musical and leadership skills beyond the regular school environment.
Rehearsals are held Tuesday afternoons from 3:45-4:45 PM (Sinfonia) and 5:00-6:00 PM (Philharmonic) (in the Salem Hills High School band and choir rooms. Directors of the group are Dan Bigler, Tammy Drager, Bridgett Johnson Aileen Keliiliki, and Paul Wells. Students desiring membership in the group should fill out the google form found on our "Join Us!" page. For any other questions feel free to contact one of the directors.
We look forward to meeting you and playing some outstanding music this year!
