We had five applications this year for SFE awards. We need more people to apply for these awards. The National Chair asked me to encourage all our members to apply for these awards.
2012 Winners:
Search for Excellence in Landscape Horticulture:
1st Place: Scott Welborn, Davidson County
2nd Place: Karen Neill, Guilford County
Search for Excellence in Remote Sensing and Precision Agriculture
1st Place: Mark Blevins. Brunswick County*went on to region, but did not win national
Search for Excellence in Young, Beginning and Small farmers/ranchers
1st Place: Richard Melton, Union County
Search for Excellence in Livestock Production
1st Place: Richard Melton, Union County
Search for Excellence in Sustainable Agriculture

Search for Excellence in Farm Health and Safety
no applicants
Search for Excellence in Farm and Ranch Financial Management

I can think of several programs that agents are doing across the state in some of these areas that more than deserving of these awards we just need people to apply.
