Horticulture Committee Report

In 2003, a total of 3 County Agents from North Carolina submitted 3 entries in the NACAA Horticulture Awards Program. Every entry was of exceptional quality that demonstrates the yearly efforts of these County Agricultural Agents

Horticulture entries are sent to the regional chair who rates the applications and sends them to the national horticulture committee for final selection. At the state level, NCACAA provides a plaque to the first place winner of the NACAA/RISE Horticulture/Turfgrass Study Tour. Finalists are notified by May 31, 2003 if they were selected for the tour.

No entries were received for the NACAA Pre-AM/PIC Horticulture workshop and tour.

In September 2002 the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service lost one of our Horticulture Agents, Lewis Stillman Howe III, to an apparent heart attack. It was suggested to start a scholarship in Howe's name. This $500 professional improvement scholarship will be given yearly at the NCACAA State meeting. In 2003, one entry was received.

It has been a pleasure to serve as the Horticulture Chair this past year. I encourage all Agricultural Agents working in horticulture to apply for these awards.
