The following requirements are established for Volunteer NJROTC to allow for a methodical promotion process that provides increasing promotion opportunities each year through the NS-3 year. The requirements and process will vary between NJROTC Units, since each unit's SNSI can establish local promotion policies.
Cadet Seaman Apprentice (C/SA)
Current grade of 85 or above in NJROTC and 75 or above in all classes
Complete 1 Month in NJROTC
Pass Written Exam on NJROTC Uniform Regs, Military time and Cadet/Navy Ranks (90%)
Pass Practical Test on Individual Stationary Drill (90%)
At least 70% on all uniform inspections with at least an 80% average for the previous month. Absences on inspection days are considered a 0 if not made-up.
No more than 10 absences in NJROTC in current semester.
No ISS/OSS in current or previous 9-week grading period (No Alternative HS)
Cadet Seaman (C/SN)
Current grade of 85 or above in NJROTC and 75 or above in all classes
Complete 3 months in the unit and 1 month as a C/SA
Participate in 2 Communty Service Events, Unit Activities, or Competitions
Pass a Written Exam on General Orders and Chain of Command (90%)
Pass a Practical Test as a member of an unarmed squad for drill. (90%)
At least 70% on all uniform inspections with at least an 80% average for the previous month. Absences on inspection days are considered a 0 if not made-up.
No more than 10 absences in NJROTC in current semester.
No ISS/OSS in current or previous 9-week grading period (No Alternative HS)
Cadet Petty Officer Third Class (C/PO3)
Current grade of 90 or above in NJROTC and 75 or above in all classes
2 months as a C/SN and an NS-1 for 6 months or an NS-2 for 2 months
Must have been awarded 2 ribbons
Pass a Written Exam on Flag Etiquette and NJROTC Organization. (90%)
Pass a Practical Exam on drilling an unarmed squad (90%)
At least 70% on all uniform inspections with at least an 80% average for the current semester. Absences on inspection days are considered a 0 if not made-up.
No more than 10 absences in NJROTC in current semester.
No ISS/OSS in current or previous 9-week grading period or unsatisfactory conduct as identified by the SNSI or NSI.(No Alternative HS)
Cadet Petty Officer Second Class (C/PO2)
Current grade of 93 or above in NJROTC and 75 or above in all classes
Be an NS-2 for at least 4 months and a C/PO3 for at least 4 months
Must have been awarded 4 ribbons
Pass a Written Exam on Military Customs and Courtesies (90%)
Pass a Practical Exam on drilling an unarmed platoon (90%)
At least 76% on all uniform inspections with at least an 80% average for the current semester. Absences on inspection days are considered a 0 if not made-up.
No more than 10 absences in NJROTC in current semester.
No ISS/OSS in current or previous 9-week grading period or unsatisfactory conduct as identified by the SNSI or NSI.(No Alternative HS)
Cadet Petty Officer First Class (C/PO1)
Current grade of 93 or above in NJROTC and 75 or above in all classes
Be an NS-2 for at least 4 months and a C/PO2 for at least 4 months
Must have been awarded 6 ribbons
Pass a Written Exam on Personnel Inspections and Drill (90%)
Pass a Practical Exam on conducting a Personnel Inspection (90%)
At least 76% on all uniform inspections with at least an 85% average for the current semester. Absences on inspection days are considered a 0 if not made-up.
No more than 10 absences in NJROTC in current semester.
No ISS/OSS in current or previous semester or unsatisfactory conduct as identified by the SNSI or NSI.(No Alternative HS)
CADET CHIEF PETTY OFFICER AND ALL OFFICER RANKS ARE BY SNSI / NSI SELECTION
All promotions may be "MERITORIOUS" by the SNSI / NSI.
Cadets may advance one rank each summer for participating in at least one summer activity, up to C/PO1.
