About NJROTC!
The Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program was established by Public Law in 1964 which may be found in Title 10, U.S. Code, Chapter 102. The program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation, and taught by instructors who are retired Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel. The NJROTC accredited curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation, and meteorology. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by co-curricular activities of community service, academic, athletic, drill and orienteering competitions, field meets, flights, visits to military activities, marksmanship training /competitions, and physical fitness training.
Volunteer NJROTC
The Volunteer High School NJROTC was chartered in 2001 and graduated its first class in May 2002. Since that first year, the Volunteer NJROTC has achieved Distinguished Unit status for the school years ending in 2004, 2006, and 2008-2024. From 2013-2018 and 2020-2021, the Unit received Academic Honors, enabling the Instructors to nominate Cadets to attend each of the Service Academies.
Cadets participate in community service, leadership development, and numerous team activities to include: Armed Regulation Drill, Unarmed Regulation Drill, Armed Exhibition Drill, Unarmed Exhibition Drill, Color Guard, Air Rifle, Orienteering, Academic, and Physical Fitness. The unit regularly provides nearly 1000 hours of School Service and 2000 hours of Community Service each school year.
