The Nauset Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) is a service-oriented club for juniors and seniors who meet the eligibility requirements. Eligibility is based on the four pillars of NHS: character, scholarship, leadership, and service. Students will typically apply in the fall of their Junior year with an induction ceremony in November. Juniors not selected in their Junior year are encouraged to reapply at the beginning of their Senior year provided they meet the GPA requirement.
Per the NHS National Constitution, all chapters' eligibility requirements must include, at minimum:
Attending school in grades 10 through 12
Maintaining a cumulative weighted grade point average of 85 percent, B, 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), or equivalent standard of excellence (The GPA for the Nauset chapter is 3.8).
Demonstrating volunteer or service hours
Preserving an excellent record of behavior in and out of school
Participating in leadership roles in school and/or community activities
In addition to maintaining the standards that earned you your membership, as an NHS member you'll attend regular chapter meetings, perform service projects that benefit your school and communities, and fulfill any other responsibilities as required by your local chapter's bylaws.
Members are expected to participate in a variety of service projects throughout the year, both individually and as part of the larger NHS. The major service project for the group is the Peer Tutoring Program, in which students volunteer on average one hour a week to tutor fellow students. Other projects include the freshmen Buddies Program, volunteering with a club, or working with non-profits.
Once membership is confirmed, attendance at bi monthly meetings is required.
