Mrs. Kim Hurst is excited to begin in her 28th year teaching Vocal Music and her 19th year directing the New Albany Middle School Choirs. Originally from Rochester, NY, Mrs. Hurst holds a Bachelor's Degree from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in Vocal Music Education, a Master's Degree in Vocal Music Education from University of North Texas and Kodaly certificate from Capital University. In addition, she has a Master Teacher License from the Ohio Department of Education and recently received her 5 year Principal License after graduating from Concordia University with a Master of Arts in School Leadership. She is very passionate about teaching the whole child and hopes to one day lead an arts integrated school.
Prior to teaching in New Albany, Mrs. Hurst directed choirs in Texas and Rochester, New York. Mrs. Hurst resides in New Albany with her husband Robert and their two daughters Raina (7th grade), Kira (6th grade), and son Landon (2nd grade). In her free time she enjoys traveling, biking, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Hurst just finished her fourth Pelotonia bike ride in memory of her father.
Ms. Karrie Horton is proud to be a 22+ year veteran music teacher in the New Albany - Plain Local School District. She holds the degrees of Bachelor in Music Education from The Ohio State University and Master in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. Ms. Horton has continued additional studies in Theater Education and in Music Education at Otterbein, Ashland, Akron and Oklahoma Universities. She is the Director of all choral ensembles at the high school, shares the 6th grade choir with Mrs Kim Hurst, and serves as music director for the annual musicals at both NAHS and St. Charles Prep. Ms. Horton is also a member of the Senior Seminar teaching team.
Ms. Horton is active in the choral community as a singer/soloist, having performed with many local arts groups, from opera to commercial jingles, to big band. She may be the original wedding singer, with more than 300 under her belt. She is Associate Director of Capriccio! Vocal Ensemble, an 100 voice auditioned adult community chorus based in central Ohio.
