We have been busy at work having started our Informational Writing. Students have enjoyed choosing topics of interest and learning ways of organizing their information to present to their readers. Some strategies have included: boxes and bullets, pros and cons, cause and effect, and problems and solutions. They made tables of contents and have been busily drafting. In reading students are studying characters. They are determining traits and finding evidence to support their thinking. They have even considered their own character traits and have created projects to share their ideas. We are finishing up Because of Winn Dixie as a read aloud. Students have enjoyed applying their knowledge to compare the main character to characters in others books. In math, we have started fractions! While there was much apprehension at first, it has been exciting to see the enthusiasm grow as we have progressed. We have learned about unit fractions, fractions of a region, and are starting to work on fractions on a number line.
