Grading Practices
The regular (sometimes daily) proficiency assessments usually have seven opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding. Standard practice is to allow for three days to complete their assessments. Additional time can be granted on appeal to the student if there are extenuating circumstances. All opportunities must be completed before the formal chapter assessment. Corrections on chapter tests and quizzes are encouraged but must be completed before the next chapter test. Chapter tests can be re-taken the score from the retake is the final score entered for that test and the re-take must be completed before the next chapter test. Labs cannot be re-taken.
Classwork is used to inform, is not graded and is risk free. Proficiency assessments that can be taken home regularly allow for corrections. Lab activities may require work to be done outside of class.
Students willing to demonstrate mastery by showing additional often novel approaches to labs and projects may sometimes ask for extra credit, which will amount to less than 1% of the grade.
Work not turned in will be either entered in as either an incomplete "I" or missing "M" and not a "0". Students can still submit missing or incomplete work until the formal chapter assessment.
