Academic Support for Literacy uses Fountas & Pinnell's researched-based literacy intervention program called Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI).
Characteristics:
Small-group intensive intervention (5 students or less)
Students read and learn at their own independent reading level
Ongoing assessment of reading skills and current independent reading levels
To assess growth a one-on-one Running Record will be conducted 3 times per year.
To monitor progress in LLI reading level, one-on-one assessment of current level LLI independence will be conducted 4-5 times per year.
Direct instruction of comprehension strategies for nonfiction text
Explicit Word Study instruction to build vocabulary
Use of engaging texts of fiction and nonfiction on a variety of topics.
Explicit instruction of comprehension strategies for fictional/literary texts with the goal of lifting and deepening student understanding of more complex literature.
