Campus Surroundings

The school was founded in 1968, in accordance to the nine-year compulsory education implemented by the National Government. After years of development and with the concerted effort of successive principals, faculty, staff, and the students, we have today’s school. In recent years, the school has been actively reformed, which has led to a new start. The promotion of various works including teaching and administrative works has gradually become effective.

Originally located in Chiayi Minsheng South Road and Shihhsien intersection, on July, 2003, the school moved to a new premise next to Xinmin Road. The school became a neighbor of the Chiayi University and Hsing Chia Elementary School and is adjacent to the Chiayi City Sports Venues & Stadiums. The neighborhood is a high quality cultural and educational district. Currently, (2011 academic year), the school has 63 regular classes (22, 21, and 20 for each grade) with 2609 students. The school also has 3 classes specialized in sports, 2 special education classes, 1 unclassified gifted resource class and 1 math and science gifted resource class. The total number of classes is 70 classes. The school district includes:

4 elementary schools: Ta Tung Elementary School, Chueiyang Elementary School, Chih Hung Elementary School, and Hsing Chia Elementary School.

The school’s relocation construction plan was based on a 48 class scale. Currently, after the total amount was controlled, the school has 70 classes (the school still has about over a hundred students who need to be referred to other schools). The classrooms for specialized subjects and resource rooms have also been used. In 2008, the Creative Arts Building was constructed and was completed in 2010. The use of the building has allowed the school’s arts field and integrated field courses to become fully fledged.

School characteristics:

The school was founded in 1968 and was established by the National Government to implement the 9-year compulsory education. Other than the organization and establishment of a general junior high school, the specialized characteristics include:

1. A tutorial school was established in 1973 and it currently has 3 classes.

2. In 1978, the school organized lunch service to the students; the school was the first Junior High School to provide lunch service to the students in Chiayi City.

3. In 1993, the school established a special education class to provide services to students with special needs.

4. In 1996, the Tainan Social Education Center established the first social education work station in Chiayi City in the school. The work station was to assist with the organization of social education promotion. On March 17, 2010, due to the business transformation of the social education work station, the station was withdrawn.

5. In 1998, sports classes were established for the purpose of advancing baseball. Taekwondo and golf classes were also established.

6. In 1998, the original established resource classes began to officially enlist teachers. In the 2000 academic year, the school set up a special education group to be in charge of the special education business.

7. In 2004, the school established math and science gifted resource classes.

School Building Condition:

There are a total of six academic buildings including the Ming Chih Building, the Ming Shan Building, the Chieh Heng Building, the Chin Wen Building, the Talent Crown Building, and the Creative Arts Building. Each building is organized in the following way: a total of 10 classrooms for specialized subjects, 68 general classrooms, 10 offices, a health center, an activity center, a kitchen, and a sports field.

Our school has been founded for thirty years. Recently, through continuous communication and coordination, vitality has gradually developed in the midst of stability and harmony. The performance and effectiveness in various areas have significantly improved. Since the 2000 academic year, to act in accordance with the vacancy in the administrative positions, the school has recruited young and middle-aged teachers in the administrative positions, so the quality of the whole team has become more enhanced. For the next few years, with the passing of generations, the school employed new teachers and the overall administrative and teaching team became stronger. To coordinate with the relocation of the school and the overall school business development, the school is to use “building a model, and the pursuit of excellence” as the school’s vision:

Special Population and Accidents and Concerning Issues

From the injury data statistics, the injury incidents occurred the most in the sports field and in the classrooms. The biggest reason is the large number of classes with nearly 2700 people. With every class reaching 40 students, the students’ activity space is relatively small during physical education class and off-class time.
