Curriculum for the week of December 10-14th

Writing: We will continue our persuasive writing unit.  This week, we will be writing to persuade for the best pet to have.

Reading: Our essential question is How do plants change as they grow?  Students will be practicing to sequence a story and retelling the text. The genres we will be working with are drama and non-fiction.  Our phonics focus is on long i: i_e .  We will also be focusing on present tense verbs and plurals. 

Math: We will continue in Unit 4.  We will be focusing on teen numbers, a group of 10 and some left over.  We will also be comparing numbers. 

Science: We will be learning about properties of matter this week!  This is our first FOSS unit where students will be using many hands on activities to direct their learning.  We will be focusing on separating particles of solids.

Social StudiesWe will continue with Unit 7, What was school like long ago?

ART:  We will be having free art as time allows since we have PAD time this week

Curriculum for the week of December 3rd-7th

Writing: We will begin our persuasive writing unit.  This week, we will be writing to persuade for change in our school!

Reading: Our essential question is How do we measure time?  Students will be practicing with text evidence, to make and confirm predictions.  We will also be discussing character, setting and plot.  Our phonics focus is on long a: a_e .  We will also be focusing on contractions with not.

Math: We will continue in Unit 4.  We will be focusing on teen numbers, a group of 10 and some left over.  We will also be practicing doubles.

Science: We will be learning about properties of matter this week!  This is our first FOSS unit where students will be using many hands on activities to direct their learning.  We will be focusing on liquids this week.

Social Studies: We will continue with Unit 7, What was school like long ago?

ART:  We will be making snowman art using pointillism.
