Welcome to Physics! The world of physics affects your life all of time, actually physics controls everything in our world. In this class we will learn the most important principles of Physics. This will help you better understand the world you live in and also prepare you for Physics courses that may take in the future. You will be presented with hands on problems that you will have to solve using the information that you have gained in class. I know that you are all very bright students, and will do great, but don’t be afraid to ask questions! I am very excited for a great year with a great group of students!
Required Classroom Materials: You are expected to come to class prepared every day.
1. A Pen or Pencil- Always have a writing utensil
2. A Notebook- You should have a notebook used only for Science class
3. A Folder- Have a folder used only for science and be sure to bring it everyday
4. Your Textbook- You will have a workbook style textbook. There is a version that
can be accessed online as well by going to my class website.
5. Your Chromebbook- We will be using our chrombooks regularly, be sure it charged.
Class Expectations: I have simple, yet high, expectations for everyone.
1. Respect Each Other- Be nice to each other, help each other, treat others how you want to be treated. There is no reason to be disrespectful to each other, inside or outside of class time, and it will not be tolerated.
2. Respect School Property- No writing on tables or chairs, walls, etc. We are lucky to have great facilities, so let’s do our part to keep them that way.
3. Respect Yourself- Come prepared, do your work, WORK HARD, ASK QUESTIONS,
4. Ask Questions- You have to ask them to know the answers. There are no bad questions, and asking questions is one of the biggest parts of science.
5. Work Hard- If you keep up with your work and do your best, I GUARANTEE you will pass this class! Working hard makes the reward that much better.
6. Have Fun- This is the most important of all. I hope that this class will fun for everyone, myself included, and if you take care of the above expectations we will have fun.
Grading Policy: You will EARN your grade, no matter how high or low. Everyone’s grades will be calculated based on a total of all of the points possible throughout the grading period. Daily work, labs, projects, and tests will make up most of the possible points for this class. There will be some extra credit opportunities available, but don’t count using it to save your grade. Behavior and work habits will account for portions of grades on some assignments and labs. I reserve the right to adjust grades based on behavior and work habits Grading Scale: The grades you EARN will be based on this scale.
Percentage - Letter Grade
100-97% A 94-90% A-
89-87% B+ 86-83% B 82-80% B-
79-77% C+ 76-73% C 72-70% C-
69-67% D+ 66-63% D 62-60% D-
Below 60 F
Late Work: I will accept late for up to two weeks after the initial due date. The later an assignment is turned in, the fewer number of points that will be possible, BUT turning it in and getting some points is better than no points at all.
Absences: Due to the increase in the number and frequency of student absences, it will be expected that students use Google Classroom to access work missed. Prior access to class work should not be expected. Please follow school policy concerning time allowed to make up missed work.
Tips for Success: These simple tips will help you have a fun and have successful year.
1. Do your Work!!!- Every chapter there will be at least as many points for assignments, labs, and projects as there will be on the test, and if you do all of your work the tests will MUCH, MUCH easier!!!
2. Turn in your Work!!!- If you do not turn your work in you cannot get a grade!!! If you do not do your work you will miss out on a very important learning opportunity!!!
3. Use your Daily Work to Prepare for the Tests!!!- Every assignment, project, and lab that we will do in this class is done to help you better learn and understand the topic we are talking about, and if you know the topic during an assignment you will probably still know it when we take a test.
4. Pay Attention During Class!!!- I will never expect you to know something on a test that we have not talked about during class, but if we talk about during class you had better
5. Ask Questions!!!- If you are not sure about something, ask me. I am here to help you, and I will do anything that I can to help you. I usually in my room in the mornings and after school, so feel free to stop in anytime.
