Concert Attendance Policy
Since concerts are an extension of our classroom activities, we expect all students to attend each performance. We use this as part of the overall grade for a quarter. We do recognize, however, that there will be absences. There are basically two types of absences.
The first is an excused absence. Illness or family emergencies do arise. The student is excused from the performance, but will need to make up for the missed performance by performing the concert music with someone who sings a different part or alone. Prior notification is appreciated when possible. In case of illness or family emergency, a brief written explanation will suffice or simply phoning the instructor and leaving a message at school. Since concert dates are made known the first month of school, it is expected that reasonable efforts will be made to assure participation in our performances. Please plan your family trips carefully and try to work around our performances.
The second type of absence is considered unexcused and will result in a ZERO for the concert grade. This occurs when a singer has no valid reason for the absence or chooses work or a social function over a concert responsibility. It is important to realize that a musical performance depends heavily on the participation of EVERYONE and we want students to recognize the importance of their contribution to the ensemble. If a student’s parent / guardian does not provide a note, email or phone notification, the student will receive a ZERO for the concert grade.
Fundraisers
Each year the choral program has a fundraising opportunity in which the students may help raise money for various musical enrichment activities. Any student participating in the fundraiser will have a personal account in which their profits will be kept. Trips are just one of these enrichment opportunities.
The money raised belongs to the MAHS choral program and cannot be used for personal matters.
