We are so excited to have your child on our team this year!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What can I find on my teacher’s website?
What is included in the agenda?
The student handbook and the school parent compact is located in the front of the agenda. The first page of the agenda needs to be signed to show you read the handbook information. Test dates and homework as well as important upcoming events, will be written in the agenda. Daily behavior will be documented and needs to be signed. If your child has a difficult day, you will also be contacted by phone or email.
What is school wide homework policy?
Students’ homework this year is to read each night. The goal is 60 minutes per week! They will be given a reading log to keep track of the date, book title, and time they read. Please sign this reading log. They will be encouraged to stay organized, keep track of the time they read, and keep their reading logs in their folder.
Students will also need to keep up with all notes and study guides for each class/subject. These need to be studied and reviewed regularly to help students stay prepared for upcoming quizzes and tests.
What type of assessments should I expect?
Assessments will be given across all subject areas in a variety of ways; true/false, multiple choice, constructed and extended response, and digital.
What is our grading policy?
How do I know how well my child has performed on tests and assignments?
A folder will be sent home each Wednesday with weekly graded papers. Please make sure you sign the folder that lets us know that you have seen your child’s papers. Many of our tests will be given online, so a copy may not come home in the folder. Grades can be tracked using Campus Portal. If students score below 80% on any summative assessment (unit assessments) the assessment will be kept in your child’s portfolio for re-teaching and reassessing purposes. We will write a note in your child’s agenda if they didn’t master a standard/skill on a summative test. Please contact Lavonne Doty at the Board Office if you need help logging into Campus Portal.
What if my child needs to ride home differently one day?
If your child is to ride a different bus, ride home with another student, or is to be a car rider, just write a note telling us the new information OR contact the front office. Please do not email us these changes, as we may not have time to check emails before your child leaves. Please let the office know by 2:30.
Can my child bring a snack?
All students may bring water in a container with a closable lid and a healthy snack. Students won’t be allowed to drink juice or sodas in the classroom. Snacks brought must not require a fork or a spoon to be eaten and need to be a single serving. No Takis or spicy chips.
How do I send in money for field trips, lunch money, etc.?
Money is REQUIRED to be in an envelope with their name, amount, homeroom teacher, and grade and purpose for the money. Field trips will be paid upfront this year, please look for this letter in their take home folder.
How is breakfast served?
Breakfast is $1.35 and is served starting at 7:30 in the cafeteria. If your child arrives after 7:50, they are able to get a “grab and go” breakfast to eat in the classroom. For your convenience, all lunchroom fees can be paid online at myschoolbucks.com.
What are Vita-Pups?
Vita-pups (slushy) can be purchased upon your child’s arrival to school. They are $.60. Your child is responsible to keep up with their ticket until lunch. They will not be sold on picture days.
Can I eat lunch with my child?
We encourage parents and relatives to join us for lunch. If you choose to eat with your child, you are welcome to eat at our table, or in our Café on the stage. *NO FAST FOOD IS ALLOWED. This is to encourage and model healthy eating. Thank you so much for helping with this. Lunch is $1.75 for students and $3.25 for adults.
If you have any questions or concerns please refer to the student handbook ( in the agenda), or send us a detailed note or email, including the best way to get back in touch with you. We are looking forward to working with you and teaching your child!
