My goal is to help your child become an independent learner by giving them the tools to find the answers to their questions. I have websites, manipulatives, and reference materials in the classroom that the students are taught to use. We encourage discussion with peers (not copying or giving each other the answers) as well as discussion with adults.
Expectations are set according to where the student is academically and emotionally. They will not be asked to do something that they are not capable of doing.
Students are expected to complete their work. If it does not get completed, the teacher will need to find time or keep the student behind to complete the work.
In the older grades, we begin encouraging students to ask for help if they need it. It is an important skill to be able to approach a teacher rather than waiting for someone to notice they are struggling. If your child doesn’t understand some work, there are likely adults who are able to help. They can write a note, leave it near me, and I will get to them when I have a chance. I am in the building by 7:30 am daily and stay after school (except during track season) if they need to ask questions.
