Are the free demos fully functional?

No, the spreadsheet Free Demo's have the "SAVE" function disabled, otherwise, they are fully functional.

Are the 3 types of ledgers compatible?

No, these 3 Ledger types (spreadsheet, desktop, cloud) are all in different formats. However, the cloud ledger is able to upload files created in the desktop ledger program.

What software do I need to run these Ledgers?

On a Mac or PC, you will need Microsoft Excel 2010 or newer. You can also use LibreOffice, which you can download for free here. Please note, the ledgers will not run on less robust spreadsheet programs such as Google Sheets or Apple Numbers.
