This class is specially designed to assist students in passing the AP Literature test in the spring, and used as a benchmark the AP English Course Description from the College Board. In addition to working towards passing the test, you will have a chance to read, discuss, and write about literature. This course will look at both canonical literature and literature that rests outside the mainstream. We will look at different ways to analyze literature, eventually coming to terms with a “second language,” or a language that looks beyond the plot of a text or the meaning of a poem. We will constantly ask ourselves who the author is, who is his or her audience, what message or meaning can we glean from the text, and how has the author brought his or her message across to the reader.
