Yearbook Design and Layout Class
We are on a roll with designing our yearbook. Remember the job # for our yearbook is 10085610. The link to the Lifetouch site is http://onlineyearbooks.lifetouch.com . Each of you has your own login information and password. Do your best and give it your all.
The Yearbook Design and Layout Class is a one semester journalism course reserved for graduating seniors. The students use project management skills to form and work with teams to create the school yearbook. They will use templates of several double-page layouts, focus on photography, cooperative presentation, layout, production, deadlines and desktop publishing design.
DELIVERABLES:
Week 12 & 13: Nov. 2-6, 2009
Edit content, headlines, captions, and layout design for pages (CW grade)
Executive Team make assignments for staff (CW) (due by Tues.)
All staff produce thumbnail for next two-page spread (CW) (due Th.)
Pictures taken: Founders Week, Salat, Class work (each class), Student Life, Teachers in action (CW)
upload pictures to Lifetouch site by Saturday (quiz grade)
Article for page - HW (due Fri.)
Ad#2 with report (HW- due by Thurs.)
Week 11: Oct. 26-30, 2009
Thumbnail of two-page spread assignment (due Tues.) = HW
Article for page (due Thurs.) = HW
Draft of page design (due Thurs.) = CW
Final design on Lifetouch (20 points for each of the five elements completed) (due Sat.) = test grade
Weeks 9 and 10 – Oct. 12 – 23, 2009
- Meet with group to develop a plan for your section of the yearbook (CW)
o Successful meeting = everyone engaged and offering input,
§ Plans include 30 year theme,
§ Everyone in group has 2-page spread to design
- Thumbnail design of a 2 page spread (CW)
- Design two complete pages on the Lifetouch site (test grade)
- Enhance three photos using PhotoShop and upload to the site (2 grades – one for enhancements (CW), one for uploading (HW))
Week 8 – Oct. 5 – 9, 2009
- Make corrections to test and prepare for a retake
- Thumbnail design for a 2-page spread
- Ad #1 with typed report of the ad campaign
STUDY GUIDE FOR Mid-TERM EXAM
o Design one page with photos, text, headline, and captions on the Lifetouch site
o Select one of the following subjects to write an article for the yearbook. To successfully complete this assignment, you must do the following:
· Gather history from the last 30 years on the topic
· Interview and get meaningful direct quotes from at least two experts in the field and one student
· Provide copies of interview notes along with the typed article
· Article must be typed to be accepted. If not typed, it will not be accepted.
· Follow the formula for writing an article
