National Identity
A sense of national identity comes from a shared belief that we belong to the same country. Besides the common practices, Singaporeans also share common experiences which allow us to create a bond with fellow Singaporeans.
What are some of the examples that make Singapore, uniquely Singapore?
Why do you think that sharing a common experience or practice allows us to have a sense of identity with fellow Singaporeans, thus shaping our citizenship?
PARTICIPATION
Besides a sense of identity, active participation in public affairs also shapes and strengthens a person’s sense of citizenship. Citizens can contribute towards the good of society either as individuals or through organised groups. Often, citizens contribute in areas they are passionate about, thus contributing towards greater ownership and commitment towards causes they are involved in.
Give examples which show how citizens have contributed towards the good of society.
