2018 About Me Self Portrait

Create an piece of artwork that represents you and your personality.

Explanation

Reference Photos can be added to the About Me Self Portrait Presentation that has been shared with you...

Requirements

1.Your image MUST be on the project in some way.

Your image should represent your personality. You can use an image of your head or entire body...

Think about your facial expressions or ways to describe your personality through the image.

Good News- You can use TRACE your image onto your project.

I would suggest putting an interesting filter on your photo to simplify it and make it easier to trace and fill in. I used a cut out filter on Photoshop. If you are clueless how to do this, I can help you with that.

2. You must include an interesting background.

I did a scraped paint method which I can show you in class.

You can do whatever you want... this could be watercolor, paint, paper collage, etc...

Think about what colors you like and how the background can represent your personality as well.

I used warm colors such as orange, gold, and pink because I like those colors and thought it would be good backdrop for the other images I had planned on adding to the project. I used the scraped paint method because I like art techniques that are different and interesting.

3. You must include at least 5 or more pieces of information about yourself onto the project.

This can be done anyway you see fit. I will explain mine...

1. E+R=O. This stands for Event + Response = Outcome, and is a way I try to live my life. You can't control the event and you can't always control the outcome, but you can always control how you choose to respond.

I printed these letter on a separate sheet of paper. I cut and glued them to my project.

2. The hand holding a paintbrush- You guys obviously know that this represents my passion for art. These were two pictures I drew and shaded separately. I cut them out and glued them to my background.

I played around with having the brush at different places of my project, but really liked the idea of having the brush look like it was painting the top of my head. This is to signify that I am, and will always be a "work in progress."

3. The Let it Be Sheet Music- This actually represents 2 different qualities about myself.

I have been playing the piano since 1st grade and took lessons for 12 years. I still love playing the piano and use it as a way of relaxing.

I have a love and fascination with the Beatles and have always connected to the song "Let it Be."

I printed off this music and added watercolor to the top in order for the music to stand out a bit from the background.

4. The colorful Mandala- I love Mandalas and like the meaning about how creating them is a form of meditation.

I had drawn one of these awhile ago in my art journal and decided to use it in my project. I used colored pencils and sharpie markers. I cut the mandala into 2 pieces to balance the design and colors, and to make it look like it was behind my face.

5. The numbers on the Mandala- All of the numbers represent important dates in my life including my anniversary and the birthdays of my two daughters Kendall and Carmen.

Graded on the following criteria...

1. Meeting the project requirements. See above.

2. Effectively filling the space.

3. Design

4. Creativity

5. Effort

6. Craftsmanship and Neatness

The facial expression of my image was to represent how I think deeply about things and am always looking for ways to improve my life. It can also signify my ability to judge my students artwork and think about ways to improve and help! :)

I transferred the image and painted this on top of my background.

In addition to creating this piece of artwork, a tiny percentage of your grade will involve you presenting the project to the class. You will basically explain your process and choices like I did above.
