Healthy and Nutritious Meals for Your Child
Millbury Public Schools is proud to participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP), offering delicious and nutritious meals to our students. Our dedicated School Nutrition team strives to provide kid-friendly meals that meet or exceed the latest USDA guidelines.
Ensuring Balanced and Age-Appropriate Nutrition:
We create our menus based on USDA meal patterns and food components. This ensures:
Age-appropriate portion sizes and calorie levels.
Reduced sodium and saturated fat content.
A variety of colorful vegetables offered throughout the week.
At least 80% of grains being whole grain.
Minimum protein requirements met (1 oz. for K-8, 2 oz. for 9-12).
Making Healthy Choices Easy:
We encourage students to take all five meal components offered for a well-balanced lunch. Breakfast requires three items, sized for young hands (think palm size or deck of cards). Milk must be nonfat or 1% with nonfat options for flavored milk.
Healthy Cooking Methods:
All our meals are oven-baked, ensuring nutritious and delicious options without frying. In fact, our schools don't even have fryolators, adhering to USDA regulations for healthy cooking practices.
USDA Lunch Requirements:
As mandated by the USDA, students must choose at least three lunch components, including one fruit or vegetable. This ensures they receive a variety of essential nutrients for optimal growth and development.
We look forward to providing your child with healthy and delicious meals throughout the school year!
We are looking for extra hands to help out in our kitchens!
