Session 4: December 5, 2025
Programming for Gifted Students
Advocacy: Working for Improvement
Session 3: November 7, 2025
Chapter 3 has a lot of traits of gifted kids. At our in person meeting we marked which ones applied to our kids - and then discussed similarities and differences and coping strategies that have worked (if applicable). Feel free to print this out and fill it out for yourself. If you have multiple gifted kids, consider using two different colors.
Chapter 4 is very heavy....but it's good info to keep in mind as children get older. After reading, create a list of things that you want to be sure to instill in your child.
Session 2: October 3, 2025
Check out the various statements from page 28 in the text and post your thoughts/comments/questions on which ones seem to apply to your child.
Read and consider ...what jumps out at you?
Some of our thoughts from the in person meeting:
"...perform or show the potential to perform..." - does not mean perfection is required!
"...in all areas of human endeavor." - not just reading and math, although those are the main areas that schools look for
"...REQUIRE differentiated educational services..." - something different than the norm has to happen for gifted student needs to be met...which is the premise for the podcast mentioned below, "They'll Be Fine"....if left on their own with nothing to meet their specific needs, they will not be "fine" - much less reach their potential.
Another resource with great information on gifted students is the podcast from NCAGT called "They'll Be Fine." Episode 63 is about Overexcitabilities and kind of connects to the information on p.34-35.
Our next meeting will be on Friday, November 7th at MIS. I hope you can join us for coffee and doughnuts! We will discuss chapters 3 & 4 of the book.
Session 1: September 5, 2025
Check out the results of our poll from the parents who attended in person. Consider which of these traits you see in YOUR gifted child. The full list is on page 1 of the book.
Next month we will meet on Friday, October 3rd @ 9AM at Mooresville Intermediate. We hope you can join us for doughnuts, coffee, and discussion of Ch. 1 & 2!
If you can't get a book, use the links below to read the chapters...and keep trying online! There are some used ones that pop up pretty regularly!.
