Dr. Copelan is the founder and CEO of e-Med Colorado Inc., a suicide research company. He has presented his findings worldwide and most recently served as Chairman of the Committee on Psychiatric Emergencies and Suicide at the World Psychiatric Congress in Madrid, Spain. Dr. Copelan is a graduate of Stanford University and UCLA Medical School. His post-graduate medical education was at the University of Colorado, where he served on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry. He established a cadaver program and was interim director of the Body Farm at Colorado Mesa University. He has authored two books on child development and neuroanatomy

This presentation will address the complex and challenging task of assessing youth and adult homicidality and suicidality in the emergency department and other clinical settings. Dr. Copelan will present evidence based assessments evaluating the impact of ideation and nonideation states on attempt among clinical samples, along with important time-relative factors, nonideation states and easy to administer tests when assessing near-future violence.
