This mission to be play-tested and subject to future revisions.
Since it is on the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, I decided to try to cook up a mission specifically honoring the Normandy Invasion. I have called this mission “Omaha Beach” and it will be based on the Siege Assault game type in Battletech: Firestorm, utilizing 8 players working together in the pods as the Allied Forces storming the beach to destroy the Axis fortifications.
One pilot will play the role of the Battleship Texas (BB-35) providing support to the landing parties! (the original Gangster Lean) Some playtesting has been done, but it will take some SERIOUS teamwork to be successful in this mission. With all the pilots attending this Saturday, we should be able to give this mission a real workout.
A mission in honor of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, Omaha Beach.
This is a mission type with an actual objective! Humans (playing the Allied Forces) "Lay Seige" upon the opponent's (Axis Forces) fortifications with the goal to destroy certain enemy emplacements on the beach.
When one of the objective structures is being attacked, an alarm will sound. When the base has been destroyed, a horn will sound noting "Mission Successful." If the horn did not sound, the mission failed.
Before mission launch, all pilots should know how to target in the HUD so that they can identify the structures in order to destroy the objectives.
Humans will be the attacking team and all set to the RED team.
Players have specific roles to play and should know and play out their part in the battle.
1 player plays the role of the "USS Texas" (BB-35). (NO RETURN)
Callsign for this pilot in this mission should be set to "USS Texas"
The 'Mech representing the Texas will be a VWE stock Mauler.
Goal: Destroy emplacements and other enemies to clear a beachhead.
The Texas is not allowed on the beach (platform on the map). If the pilot drives the Texas on the platform, the Texas is assumed to be beached and therefore the MechCorps Mission Commander will ask the player to immediately stop all movement and may only torso twist and fire. (No forward or reverse movement. No turning the 'mech with the legs.)
If the mech is destroyed, the Texas is assumed to be destroyed/sunk. The player will shut down the Mech after it has respawned and exits the pod as if the game was set to “no return”.
1 player plays the role of a Destroyer-class ship: (NO RETURN)
Callsign for this pilot in this mission should be set to one of the two Destroyers that protected the Texas on D-Day - the Fitch (DD-462) or the Corry (DD-463).
The 'Mech representing this Destroyer will be one of the VWE Stock Heavy Class 'Mechs.
Goals: Protect the Texas, destroy emplacements, attack any enemy unit at the shoreline, protect soldiers.
The Destroyer is not allowed on the beachhead (platform on the map). If the pilot drives the Destroyer on the platform, the Destroyer is assumed to be beached and therefore the MechCorps Mission Commander will ask the player to immediately stop all movement and may only torso twist and fire. (No forward or reverse movement. No turning the 'mech with the legs.)
If the mech is destroyed, the Destroyer is assumed to be sunk. The player will shut down the Mech after it has respawned and exits the pod as if the game was set to “no return”.
The other 6 players represent the 1st Infantry Division:
There is no movement restrictions for any of the 1st Infantry Division.
You will spawn out in the sea (the rough terrain - see "Landing Zone" in the map.). Move toward Waypoint A, then proceed to Waypoint B, the beach represented by a paved platform (with lots of enemy emplacements).
For the 1st Infantry Division, there are unlimited returns (respawns). If you die, see previous bullet point.
1 player plays the role of Major General Huebner - commander of the 1st Infantry Division.
This role should be played by a veteran pod pilot who knows how the "Siege Assault" game type works and how to utilize the COMMS MFD.
Callsign for this pilot in this mission should be set to "Commander"
The 'Mech representing Major General Huebner will be a VWE stock Osiris.
Goals: The Commander leads the soldiers to the beachhead and identifies targets for the soldiers and the naval bombardment .
Hint: This is a good scenario to learn how to use the COMMS MFD and the NARC Beacon.
The remaining players play the role of the soldiers of the 1st Infantry.
Callsign for these pilots in this mission should be set to their respective callsigns.
The 'Mech representing the soldiers will be Commando 3A Variant .
Goal: Follow the "Commander" to the beach, destroy all emplacements, destroy the objective structures, establish the beachhead for the rest of the Invasion of Normandy.

Developmental notes for the Console Operator:
Put "Texas" and the destroyer in pods in easy sight of the Console Operator / Mission Commander.
If there are not enough Allied "soldiers", AI bots could be added on the Red Team. Bots will not understand any other role for Red Team. Use Level 8 (or lower?) bots because Level 9 bots tend to stay at the drop zone until attacked.
IF there are to be opponent mechs (Blue Team), remember the level 9 bot jump bug.
However... this might help keep the un-engaged bots on the beach until human team attacks. Otherwise, they might proceed off of the platform (beach)
.
