Chicken Pox Immunization Requirement Update

On December 20th, 2016 the Maine Department of Health & Human Services and Department of Education revised the Maine School Immunization Requirements role. The changes further align Maine’s immunization rules with current national recommendations to better protect the health of all Maine people. The following change was made:

Effective immediately, the exclusion period for varicella disease [chickenpox] has increased from 16 days to 21 days. This means that if a case of chickenpox is confirmed at MDIHS and exclusions are recommended, any child who has not provided proof of immunization or history of disease will be unable to attend school or any school related activity for 21 days after symptom onset of the LAST case.

Please contact Holly Cozzi-Burr with additional questions at 288-5011 ext 3305 or at hcozzi-burr@mdirss.org

Readers & Writers Club

Readers & Writers Group wanted to let you know that we are hoping to have a volunteer reader share a poem every school day in April (National Poetry Month) at the end of announcements. Some people might read poems in languages other than English, some readers might share original works, and some might be super nervous! It would be great if you could encourage your students to listen to (or watch) the announcements and support our readers. After the outpouring of poetic energy on Friday afternoon, we know you're all pro-poetry! Join the Facebook page or contact Ms. Leamon (in person or by email: rleamon@mdirss.org) if interested. You can also consult any current members (Sarah Soucek, Xan Rush, Abby Bridgers, Grace Higgins, Irene Choi, Brooke Long, Oliver Johnston, Lucy Wray).
