June 12, 2017

This will be our final week of school for the 2016-17 school year.

We wish everyone a great summer!

Final Assessment Days

Students will have their Final Assessment Days on Thursday, June 15 (Blocks A & B) and Friday, June 16 (Blocks C & D).  2016-2017 Updated Calendar

Please communicate with your teachers and Mr. Braun, if you need to make alternative plans for your final assessment days.  Work obligations are not excusable reasons to miss your final assessment, please plan ahead.

Both Final Assessment Days will allow students to present final evidence that they have met the standards for the class.

Both days will be Early Release Days

Students will have two classes each day; Blocks A & B on Thursday and Blocks C & D on Friday.  We will be serving lunch at 11:30 and buses will depart at 11:50.  Students with a Learning or Study Center during any of the blocks do not have to be in school during that block.

Schedule

LAPTOP TURN-IN

All laptops and chargers need to be turned in to your Advisor by the last exam before you depart school for the summer. It is your responsibility to make sure you have been checked off, by your Advisor, for the items shown. You will be charged for any missing items. If your laptop is not working ... see Ms. Swann (ASAP).MLTI2016.jpg

All other school items should also be returned at this time (textbooks, calculators, library books, uniforms, etc.).  All Physical Education lockers need to be emptied by Wednesday, June 14.  Students who rented locks can return them and they’ll have their $5 deposit returned.  Any items remaining in the lockers after June 14 will be donated to Goodwill.

HCTC - final days of the school year

HCTC has announced its final days for students

  • Juniors - Wednesday, June 14

MDIHS Shoe Drive - New or lightly used shoes/sneakers

May 19-June 14th - An NHS-sponsored project

If you have new or lightly used shoes you would like to donate, please use the laces to tie them together, and drop them in the box in the red tile area by the main office of the high school. Make sure that all shoes are in good condition. All shoes will be donated to the Emmaus Homeless Shelter. Shoes are very important; every pair will help someone get back onto their feet. If you would like to donate anything else, please visit the Emmaus website: http://www.emmaushomelessshelter.org.

Would you like to host an AFS student?

MDIHS has a tradition of giving our students a global perspective by hosting exchange students.  The benefits from hosting are too many to name and many faculty have hosted multiple students over the years.  If you think that this might be an experience your are interested in, please read the information below, and if you have any questions, please contact me mcarignan@mdirss.org, or Katelyn Tighe at ktighe@afsusa.org

Do you have an interest in other parts of the world and a willingness to share your life for a few weeks or months? If so, consider hosting an exchange student for 12 weeks, a semester or full school year? Please consider sharing your lives with one of our AFS students planning to join the Dirigo AFS team here in Maine in mid-August.  Doing so could change the life of a young person and provide unforgettable memories for your family. We are actively seeking host families in your area where students have been hosted successfully in the past. These students must have a host family by July 26th in order to arrive in mid-August for the start of school, otherwise they will arrive on September 7th.

MDIHS Building Use Summer ‘17

We are planning for two major construction projects this summer. The exterior walls are being rebuilt, much of the parking areas are being repaved and the gym entrance renovated.  This construction is much needed and will be an upgrade.  It will also come at a cost.  The building will be largely inaccessible for group work and student projects.  For the most part, we should assume that almost all activities will need to be in an alternative location.  There will be a few exceptions, including MDI Advantage. Please contact Matt Haney or Bunky Dow if you have any questions.

Have you found any paperback books with a tape binding?

Please, parents and families: every year we have a lot of books wander away from MDI! Often used for revision after the classwork is done, they are hard to keep track of. If you find a paperback book with a tape binding, open and check to see if it's stamped "MDIHS". If it is, please send it to school with your student! Thank you!
