626 Safety Rules

Science is a hands-on class. However, science activities may have potential hazards. We will use some equipment that may be dangerous if not handled properly. Safety in science is an important part of the scientific process and is a standard in the 6th grade curriculum. To ensure a safe classroom, a list of rules has been developed. These rules are to be followed at all times. Additional safety instructions will be given for each activity. No science student will be allowed to participate in science activities until both the student and either a parent or guardian has signed this contract.

Safety Rules for Room 626

    1. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times in the science room. Horseplay, practical jokes, and pranks will not be tolerated.

    2. Follow all written and verbal instructions carefully. Ask your lab partner and then the teacher questions if you do not understand the instructions.

    3. Do not touch or remove any equipment, supplies, or other materials until your teacher has told you to do so.

    4. Perform only authorized and approved experiments.

    5. Never eat, drink, chew gum, or taste anything in the science room unless directed by the teacher.

    6. Keep hands away from face, eyes, and mouth while using science materials or when working with chemicals. Wash your hands with soap and water after using chemicals.

    7. Dress properly for conditions. Long hair should be tied back, no dangling jewelry, and no loose or baggy clothing. When going outside bring necessary clothing.

    8. Keep your work area clean and neat during and after an experiment. Clean all work areas and equipment at the end of the experiment as directed by your teacher. Extra class supplies should go under the table not in the isle. Remember your teacher dismisses you by lab stations. The bell does not tell you to leave.

    9. Report any accidents to the teacher immediately.

    10. Always carry microscopes and stereoscopes with both hands. Hold the arm with one hand, and place the other hand under the base.

    11. Treat all equipment and supplies with the utmost care and respect. Supplies and equipment are intended for the use of all students; overuse and damage as a result of improper use could take away opportunities from others.
