"I did a lot more traveling with Nashville than I did with Baltimore cause at Baltimore we had our own ballpark. At Nashville, you had to travel if you were gonna play. We would stop at a store and get us some bologna, onion and strawberry pop, or some kinda pop and a little bit of something for dessert and we would ride, ride, ride. We didn't worry about
stopping. We knew we would stop for gas, but we couldn't always stay in the larger cities. Didn't stay in those small Southern towns; in fact, you didn't want to stay in the small towns any longer than you had to. That was the reason to stock up with what you needed at the store when you did stop, cause you might do a lot of riding before the next opportunity. Those little towns didn't have anything but white-owned restaurants and hotels so there was little reason to hang around. "Gas might be the only thing you could buy and then you were off."
