Welcome to fourth grade! We are so very excited to be moving on to 4th grade with our students. We are going to have a jam-packed year of learning and of course...FUN! Fourth graders will experience more independence this year. Although we are staying in the same hallway, we will be using the space differently. Students will have two teachers and travel in flexible groups throughout the year. Fourth graders study Wisconsin history and there will be several opportunities to travel outside of school this year. There is no place like 4th grade and we're sure our students will feel the same way!

Why do we have homework? The purpose of 4th grade homework is to strengthen responsibility, accountability, organization, and time management skills. Homework should be an opportunity to practice skills at home that have previously been practiced in the classroom. If your child's homework is too difficult or takes more than 30 minutes, please reach out to your classroom teacher

Homework Expectations:

PLANNER: Using a planner as an organizational tool is a goal for every 4th grader. We appreciate your support in building responsible habits by helping your child look through their planner each night and return each day.

MATH - There will be 10-15 minutes of math homework Monday-Thursday in their Homework/Remembering math books. Students will be expected to complete 1 page of review problems for their homework.

READING - We also ask all students to read each night, about 20 minutes or more is recommended. This can be done independently, with an adult in an “I read, then you read” style or simply a read aloud. We will also ask students to record these books/minutes on a reading log. The reading log will be important this year, as your child will be using the log for goal setting.

HOMEWORK DURING ABSENCES - Students absent from school for longer periods of time should continue to read at least one hour and practice math using Freckle. For longer absences or extended vacations, contact your classroom teacher.

Home Communication Expectations:

TUESDAY NEWS DAY- All school flyers are available digitally. Flyers and announcements are sent each Tuesday to the email associated with your student/family Infinite Campus Account. You may request paper copies by contacting your classroom teacher or Ms. Backes (in the office @ x1102 or jbackes@marshallschools.org)
