Mr. Youngs: Classroom Policies and Expectations

Google Classroom Codes:

American Literature zf7zs3b, English 9 66vpxa6

       Daily Expectations:

·         Beginning of the period: Find your seat and check the board for today’s activities.

·         During the period:

o   Participate by being actively engaged in the day’s activities.

o   Please make every attempt to use the bathroom during passing time. If you need to leave, sign out and take the hall pass.

o   If I see a student using his/her phone during class activities, I will take it and give it to the office. Place phone in designated area prior to the bell.

o   You are expected to have a choice book every day.

·         End of the period: Remain in your seat until dismissed.

   Late Work:

·         For assignments of 20 points or more, 10% will be deducted for each late day.

·         For daily assignments, late work may be turned in within one week of the due date for a maximum of one point.

·         If you were absent for an assignment, you have two days to make it up; see me for major projects, etc.

·         Once the unit is completed and we move on to the next one, no late work will be accepted.

    Absenteeism and Tardiness:

·         It is the student’s responsibility to make up work missed during an absence. See me, a fellow student, and/or my web page/Google Classroom.

·         If a student is tardy, I will follow the student handbook policy.

 Plagiarism/Cheating:

·         If a student willingly plagiarizes, he/she will receive a zero.

·         At times, plagiarism occurs because a student does not understand the full definition of it; the intent is what is important. If a student simply copies and pastes something and tries to pass it off as his/her own, that is an obvious zero. If plagiarism occurs in a subtler way, I will attempt to instruct the student and he/she will be given a chance to change the writing to earn partial credit.

·         Any student caught sharing answers for an assignment, quiz, or test will receive a zero.

 Supplies Needed:

·         Bring a pencil and paper to class every day.

   Grading:

·         A  92-100                      B-  80-81         D+  68-69

A-  90-91                       C+  78-79                D  62-67

B  82-87                        C-  70-71                 F  59 and below

·         Class participation can positively affect your grade.

·         Extra-credit will be offered occasionally and on my terms.

     Communication:

·         For most units, I will give students a schedule of daily assignments. I will also post this on my Google Classroom. Please refer to this to see reading assignments and quiz/test dates.

·         My email is youngsb@maplelake.k12.mn and I will respond to any questions you have.
