We are officially almost 2/3 of the way through the school year and it's so hard to believe! Our students have been working so hard to grow and make progress in their classrooms it has been a joy to watch!
Speaking of which, we will be hosting our "What's the Scoop?" Night on March 21st from 6pm-7:15pm this month. This will be a night for all families to come and see some of the fruits of our labor as the grade levels classrooms will set up displays of student work lining the Kindergarten hallway all the way to the cafe. The display will begin with preschool work samples, and progress all the way up through fifth grade and culminate with an ice cream social in the cafe, light music and friendly community conversation! Please join us in celebrating our students' hard work and successes!
This month we will have our PTG meeting on 03/13/17 from 6-7pm in the library. City Year corps members will be present to assist with childcare while we meet. Please come join us if you can or check back on our website for information about how you can help be a part of your child(ren)'s school day.
Please join us for a public meeting with Superintendent, Dr. Bolgen Vargas, on Thursday, March 23, from 5pm-6pm in our Library. Dr. Vargas will be having a meeting in regards to the potential redistricting of the schools. All are welcome.
Our fundraiser is beginning on March 8 and will end on March 20. https://gaschoolstore.com/eTools/Landing# This fundraiser will help us to raise money for student activities and field trips. No orders can be accepted after the March 20th deadline so that we can place orders and return items to you in a timely fashion. Thank you in advance.
Smarter Balanced Testing will begin for our grade 5 students on March 27, 2017 and will run through mid April. This is a standardized, computer adaptive test used as one measurement of student academic progress in math and reading. This information also helps us as educators to better meet instructional needs for our students. Individual student reports will go home once results are released. Students in grades 3 through 5 will take this test, and more information will be coming home as the time draws nearer.
Please be sure that you are encouraging your child(ren) to read for 20 minutes every night. This is a great way to help support literacy at home. In addition, students can practice their math facts, use flash cards or log on to their iReady accounts to do a lesson or play a game in reading or math. Your support and encouragement will surely help your child to succeed and thrive!
Lastly, please stay tuned for more information on Kindergarten registration (scheduled for April 11th at Bakersville) as well as summer programming options for our students.
As always, please let us know if we can assist you in any way. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns or feedback you may have. We welcome our family and community support and presence!!
