Coach Trella is has been our Girls Head Coach since 2023. He feels privileged in the highest regard to be a part of the team that started his competitive swim career where he swam under Coach Ryan Claus and Coach John Carle. He was proud to represent Maine West High School at the State Meet in 2004.
Following his high school career, Coach Trella attended Carthage College in Kenosha Wisconsin, where he competed on their swim team. He was honored to be given the role of captain his senior year, and to earn academic all conference honors.
Coach Trella is currently a resident of Des Plaines, and a Physical Education Teacher at Maine West High School. When he is not at his favorite school, Coach Trella enjoys spending time with his beautiful family.
Coach Drew Schneider

Drew Schneider was a competitive swimmer at Mundelein High School. After high school Drew coached Mundelein Mustang Swim club for 5 years. In 2009 Drew was an assistant varsity boys swim coach for Mundelein High School under Rachel Abel (Bayster) - a Maine West alumn and MW swim record holder. Drew also has experience coaching; Water Polo, Diving, Basketball, and Powder Puff.
Coach Schneider is a District 207 teacher in the CTE Dept teaching at Maine East and Maine South.
Coach Mike Tuntland

Coach Tuntland is starting his 18th year coaching Maine West diving - his sixth season coaching the girls program. In addition to coaching our diving programs, he spent four years as the Boys Head Swimming & Diving Coach, and 3 years as the Girls JV Swim Coach. Prior to his commitments at Maine West, he was the diving coach at Olympia High School. Coach Tuntland has vast experience directing age-group and senior swim programs having directed the Des Plaines Park District's team for 6 years as well as serving as the program director for the USA Swimming's Des Plaines River Racers team for 10 years.
During his tenure at West, athletes have broken numerous school records, earned numerous All-Conference and All-State honors, as well as many appearances at the IHSA State Meet for both swimming and diving. He has coached four of West's athletes who have made State Finals. As a native of Des Plaines, Tuntland also swam and dove for Maine West, being named a captain of the team his senior year.
Coach Tuntland works at the Des Plaines Park District taking care of the Park District pools and facilities including the Prairie Lakes Community and Aquatic Center and Mystic Waters.
Away from the pool, Coach Tuntland is not far from some type of water. For fun he can be found checking out some shipwrecks in Lake Michigan or cave diving in the springs of Florida. Back on dry land, he trades liquid water for frozen water as he also plays hockey.
