It's almost time for STEM Camp! We are excited to welcome students soon to our 2025 camp!
District 207 STEM Summer Camp is designed to provide instruction and support for students as they create projects and explore STEM topics under the guidance of certified STEM teachers from Maine Township High Schools. The goal of the camp is to provide fun, engaging experiences that give students exposure to the problem-solving and design skills needed in careers related to science and engineering as well as an opportunity to interact with their peers who may have similar interests.
The camp meets Monday - Thursday mornings from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM during the week of June 9th at the Maine West campus. Each day, students will participate in two-four different modules. Class sizes are limited to 30 students. Students should wear comfortable clothing (shorts, t-shirts, etc.) and close-toed shoes (ie, gym shoes) each day. They will be using some hand tools and other equipment, so we want their feet protected from falling debris, so no sandals or crocs. Past camp activities have included things like building mousetrap cars, creating catapults, and programming mini robots. All materials needed for the projects will be provided and campers will also receive a t-shirt. Each day will provide the students with new challenges!
REQUIREMENTS:
Participants in the camp must be entering grades 6, 7, or 8, and must live within the boundaries of Maine Township High School District 207. This year, the camp is hosted at Maine West, but registration is open to students who may attend any of the Maine high schools in the future.
There is a $50 fee for the camp. Additional camp costs are being subsidized through a generous grant through NSERVE.
Participants must have their own transportation to and from the camp each day. Carpools are recommended. There will not be supervision available for students after the camp ends, so students must leave the building at 12:00 each day.
Space is limited to 60 attendees. Please do not register for the camp if you cannot commit to attending the entire session.
A light snack (pretzels and fruit snacks) will be served at the STEM camp each day. Please do not send any other food, candy or gum with your child unless it is medically necessary. All students should bring a water bottle.
By registering, you are agreeing to the following:
Your child will be in grades 6, 7, or 8 in the fall and resides within Maine Township High School District 207 boundaries.
You will provide reliable transportation for your child each day or allow them to walk or bike on their own.
Your child will be able to attend all four days of the camp.
TO REGISTER: You can sign up for this camp with this link https://mainesouth.8to18.com/. This is the same way that you register for athletic summer camps. Please look for the STEM Camp for Grades 6-8 at MAINE WEST. Registration will be open from March 21 - May 10 unless the camp fills before that date.
