MARINE RESOURCE SPECIALIST I
The Department of Marine Resources is seeking applicants to fill a Marine Resource Specialist I position that is critical to the operation of the Water Quality Program in Boothbay.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a technical services and scientific job and requires field and office skills relevant to public health and the environment in support of the Maine Shellfish Sanitation Program. Field work involves collecting, recording and data entry of accurate environmental data including collection of seawater, stream and shellfish samples from the NH border to western Penobscot Bay by boat or truck. This work will also include working in teams to complete shoreline surveys which involve door to door interviewing of homeowners to identify actual and potential pollution sources. The amount of time spent in the field is variable depending on the needs of the program. Office work includes technical report writing in compliance with the National Shellfish Sanitation Program standards. Flexibility in scheduling is mandatory as weekend, holiday and after hours work will be necessary depending on the season and activity. Work is performed under general supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) years experience and/or education in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data. Preference will be given to applicants with boat experience and GIS skills.
