Project Description:

The intern will gain expertise in recombinant DNA work, protein expression and purification. Later work will include development of proof of concept ELISA for the diagnosis of infectious disease. Current projects include vector borne pathogens and gut nematodes.

This person will join a group of folks working on purification of several recombinant antigens and characterize the potential of these recombinants to serve as diagnostic reagents.

The intern will assist with and gain greater understanding of:

• Preparing media and buffers
• Optimization of recombinant protein expression
• Hands on understanding of protein biochemistry through use of chromatographic purification methods.
• Running and analysis of SDS-PAGE gel.
• Characterization of recombinant proteins.

Qualifications

Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be returning IDEXX interns or have completed at least one year of college. A track record of student success and potential as demonstrated by GPA, research portfolio, prior work experiences and/or the recommendation of a professor preferred.

These roles are compensated at a competitive rate; interns will work full-time hours for the summer months.
