Municipal GIS & GPS Internship at UMM GIS Laboratory

The University of Maine at Machias GIS Laboratory and Service Center is hiring a summer intern for summer 2018 to work on several projects for local communities. The internship will run from June 4 through August 15, 2018 with possible part-time extensions through December 2018. Most work will be done on-site at the UMM GIS Laboratory, with some travel throughout the Downeast Region required. Summer interns will be expected to work 25 to 35 hours per week, hourly pay rate determined by student pay grades, but will be around $9.00 per hour.

Duties:

• Collect field data using GPS units
• Create maps for municipal partners for planning, utility, and assessing applications
• GIS modeling of coastal hazards
• Collaboration with community partners
• Some support of on-campus youth programs, as needed

Qualifications:

• At least one year of college-level coursework in GIS (required)
• Coursework or experience collecting GPS data for use with GIS mapping (preferred)
• Familiarity with coastal hazards in Maine communities (preferred)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (required)
• Experience with web-based mapping (preferred)
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required)
