Spend Your Summer Working on a Research Project With Our Faculty
Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates — or REUs — offer engineering students from across the United States opportunities to gain valuable research skills.
Each student in one of our REUs works with a Duke Engineering faculty member, and her or his research group, to tackle an innovative research project. Applications typically open in the late fall and close in late January or early February.
Meet alums of our summer REU programs, and find out how their experience influenced their careers.

This new program is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) to be held during summer 2018. Through this REU, students will work on a research project related to solving one of the Grand Challenges of Engineering — 14 complex tasks aimed at ensuring the resiliency and sustainability of the world's population and of future generations. Duke-led CEINT hosts an REU funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Participating students hosted by four CEINT partner institutions: Duke, Virginia Tech, and Carnegie Mellon universities, as well as the European Center for Research and Education in Geosciences and the Environment (CEREGE) in France. This 10-week summer program offers a paid stipend, and covers housing and travel. Learn more
Students admitted to an REU program receive a competitive award that provides a monthly research stipend.
