A graduate assistantship for a Ph.D. candidate is available in the
research group of Aaron Gassmann in the Department of Entomology at Iowa
State University (http://www.ent.iastate.edu/dept/faculty/gassmann/).
Current research within this group focuses on insect resistance
management, integrated pest management, agroecology, and interactions
between agricultural pest insects and crops producing insecticidal toxins
derived from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). Possible research
topics addressed through this assistantship could include: dispersal
behavior of insect pests, life-history trade-offs that accompany the
evolution of insecticide resistance, computer modeling of resistance
evolution, and geographic variation in resistance to insecticides by
agricultural pest insects. Interested individuals should send a cover
letter describing their research interests and career goals, the names
and contact information of three references, and a curriculum vitae to
Aaron Gassmann (aaronjg@iastate.edu).
