INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH & WELLNESS
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course will give students an introduction to the consequences of illness and the promotion of individual, family, and community health based on research in public health, social and behavioral sciences. Students will examine the causes, consequences, available treatments and strategies for prevention of major health conditions across the life cycle.
COURSE ADVISORIES
ESL 140 or placement in 150, OR completion of or concurrent enrollment in ENGL 90
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Assess prevention, treatment, health promotion, and advocacy strategies to enhance health and well-being and address common health behaviors and conditions.
Analyze factors, including personal behaviors and social determinants, which influence health and illness within a health equity framework.
Examine the US healthcare system, consumer rights and strategies to access services to improve health.
Evaluate health information and resources to support health and well-being.
REQUIRED TEXTBOOK
Health the Basics (14th Edition) by Rebecca J. Donatelle. The textbook is available at the CCSF Bookstore.
