INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH & WELLNESS
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course will give students an introduction to the consequences of illness and the promotion of individual, family, and community health based on research in public health, social and behavioral sciences. Students will examine the causes, consequences, available treatments and strategies for prevention of major health conditions across the life cycle.
COURSE ADVISORIES
ESL 140 or placement in 150, OR completion of or concurrent enrollment in ENGL 90
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Compare and analyze the leading causes of illness and death among populations in the United States. Including health inequalities and the burden of disease.
Analyze factors, including personal behaviors and social determinants, which influence health and illness of individuals and populations.
Demonstrate an understanding of the US healthcare system, rights of consumers and strategies to access services.
REQUIRED TEXTBOOK
