LIBR55A - Cataloging and Classification (Online)

Welcome!! I hope this page answers any questions you have about the online section of LIBR55A - Cataloging and Classification, a required course in the City College of San Francisco's Library Information Technology certificate program. The next time this course will be offered is Spring 2024, as part of the CityOnline program. See below for a sample syllabus for LIBR55A - Cataloging and Classification (Online) if you want to get an idea of the topics covered in this course. The course pre-requisites and learning outcomes, as well as some course policies, are covered in the sample syllabus.

This course is 100% online, there are no on-campus meetings. This is NOT a self-paced course, I will be loading up the weekly topics on Saturday nights at midnight. There is no textbook for this course, the readings will be embedded into the weekly lessons.

Our course management system is Canvas (https://ccsf.instructure.com) and the course will begin January 29, 2024. Once you are registered you will be able to log into Canvas. I will be publishing the course content starting the first day of class. If you haven't used Canvas before, I recommend going into Canvas to get comfortable with the features. If you have any questions about Canvas, visit the Online Course Support Center (http://www.ccsf.edu/en/educational-programs/distance-learning/Online_Course_Support_Center.html).

If you have concerns about needing additional support, here is the link to the Disabled Students Programs and Services (https://www.ccsf.edu/student-services/support-programs/disabled-students-programs-services).

This course is probably the most difficult course in the Library Technology certificate program, and an online course can be quite a challenge for many people. It usually requires time management skills and more time than you expect.

All course communications will go to your CCSF email via Canvas, however I may send additional emails to you directly to your CCSF email address. It is a good idea to check your CCSF email often and you may want to add me (carole.chapman@mail.ccsf.edu) to your "OK" list in case I end up in your SPAM folder.

If you have any questions about the course content make sure you contact me, my preferred mode of contact is my CCSF email (carole.chapman@mail.ccsf.edu). I will do my best to get back to you within 36-48 hours.
