Here at MLC, we have a variety of classrooms that cater to children of all ages. They include:
Infants (6 weeks to 16 months)
Toddlers (16 to 24 months)
Two's
Three's
Preschool
Before & After Pre-K and School Age
Children are placed in their classroom according to age, where the activities and schedules are tailored to their needs. Younger infants focus on tummy time, grasping, rolling, and building trusting relationships with their caregivers. They are given one-on-one attention from our staff and positive encouragement as they develop. Older infants have different developmental milestones. Some of these are feeding themselves, playing together, and working on fine-motor development. As they learn to walk, the older infants also explore textures through crafts and other exercises that help them better identify what they are touching.
Children learn through play, and a toddler begins by learning how to play with one another. Playing one on one or with a group, sharing and 'using your words' are all very important skills to learn. The toddlers also get daily outside, craft, and story time where they get to be energetic, creative, and learn new things.
For our Two's, while continuing to learn how to exist with other tiny people, emphasis is placed on doing activities that they are excited about so that they are more involved in the learning process. Independence is promoted through certain daily tasks such as putting on their own coats and cleaning up after lunch and snack. Children also express themselves through art, music, and creative play. Potty training usually begins at this age, and while no child is ever pressured to use the potty, it is encouraged once they show interest.
In our Three's classroom, children continue working on many of their skills from their previous classroom, including independence and self-expression. Activities are planned according to students' interest each week. Children learn with exciting toys and manipulatives, and at this age, 'circle time' includes learning colors, shapes and recognizing that letters and numbers mean something.
MLC's Preschool program helps to prepare students to begin their educational journey. Here, students continue learning shapes and colors, but build on those skills to include patterns, sorting, letters and letter sounds, numbers and number identification, state information, days of the week, weather, seasons, months in a year, Spanish vocabulary, sign language, the Pledge of Allegiance, and coins, dollars, their corresponding amounts, and the historical figures on them.
Finally, for our Before and After Pre-K and School Age children, we offer before and after school care during the school year and full day care on holidays and during school breaks. The children are given opportunities to work on school work, be creative through crafts and fun projects as well as energetic with outdoor play.
