Welcome to Sr. M's Spanish Class! - ¡Bienvenidos a la Clase de Español!
I am originally from Pennsylvania and I attended Pennsylvania State University. I majored in Secondary Education and received a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education in Social Studies. My experience in teaching has been a bit unusual. My career actually started by teaching English at bilingual schools in Mexico. It was an awesome experience! I spent 7 years in Mexico and enjoyed them all. While in Mexico I became certified in Spanish and became certified both in Elementary and Secondary Spanish. Just a few years ago I received my Master's in Elementary Education through Grand Canyon University.
I returned to the U.S. and after a year of teaching in North Carolina, I came out to Arizona and was hired as a Spanish Teacher at a local high school here in the Valley of the Sun.
After teaching for 7 years at the high school level, I decided to return to the Elementary Level. I heard impressive things about Madison and I really wanted to teach here and a position opened up 13 years ago in Spanish.
Here at Simis I teach Kinder through 4th grade, and I do see almost the entire school. I am very excited to be able to work with the students this year and I know it will be a wonderful and exciting time for everyone.
This year we will be working with a Spanish Curriculum known as Calico Spanish. It has wonderful reviews and is very engaging. Languages need constant practice to grow and there are many games and activities online so that students can practice at home and keep the language fresh in their minds.
