After you've decided on the appropriate new course creation option (see New Course Creation Options for more information), the next step is to copy content to a new course shell. Here's how:
Enter the course that contains the content that you want to copy. This could be
a course you delivered in a previous term,
a course delivered by a colleague to which you have access (your colleague can give you access using the "Manage Users" tool), or
a Master course.
From the Control Panel, expand the Packages and Utilities section and click Course Copy.
In Select Copy Options, click Browse to identify the Destination Course ID field. This is usually the course to be delivered in the upcoming term.
A new window will appear; select the course into which you will copy the files. Click Submit in this window when you have completed your selections to apply your selections.
Under Select Course Materials, click the Select All button, to copy all course materials (or choose the specific materials you would like to copy from the list provided).
In the File Attachments section, select from the following options (OPTION 2 is the recommended choice for by far the majority of MacEwan faculty):
OPTION 1: Copy as Links to Course Files: Files from the original course are copied to the new course as links only. The copied course will have the same set of links, and those links will point back to the original location of the link defined in the original course. NOTE: This option is recommended if you plan on continuously updating your Master Course, to then have those changes automatically reflected in your Child Course(s). (See New Course Creation Options for help deciding whether or not you will use a Master Course).
OPTION 2: Copy links and copies of the content: This option will make copies of files, but ONLY those files that are linked to course content in the previous course. If you select this option, files within the course's home folder that are not linked to any content within the course will not be included in the copy. NOTE: This option is recommended for the majority of users. It allows for the easy clean-up of files that have not been used in the previous course.
OPTION 3: (Current default) Copy links and copies of the content (include entire course home folder): This will make copies of ALL files in the course's home folder whether those files are linked to course content or not. NOTE: This option is recommended if you have a repository of course content files you want to maintain, but not all of the files are made available to your students at once.
