Global Issues

Course Description

This course was developed with the expectations of making students informed, engaged, and productive citizens of the world. Students examine the Ten Areas of Critical Global Concern, the roots and causes of terrorism and the historical situations which gave rise to certain terrorist groups. They will also examine different human rights violations from the 20th century through the present. We will discuss the causes of human rights violations including war, genocide, poverty and other causes. We will study various violations including but not limited to: The Armenian genocide, the holocaust, the Bosnian genocide, Darfur, ISIS, Rwanda, etc… The course finishes the focus on the world economic order. Students will be introduced to subjects such as first, second and third world nations, colonialism, the World Trade Organization, the G8, world debt and free trade. Students will also be introduced to the history of the emergence of globalization and global trade.
