Parents/Guardians

Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, influenza vaccine will be required for all students. Influenza vaccine is always important to receive to reduce the risk of getting sick with influenza, reduce the severity of disease if one does get sick (including the risk of hospitalization) due to influenza, as well as preventing the spread of influenza to others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, influenza vaccine will be especially critical to reduce the overall impact of respiratory illness on the population, protect vulnerable populations from severe illness, and decrease the overall burden on the healthcare system.

Students must receive influenza vaccine for the current season by December 31, 2020.

Any age-appropriate licensed influenza vaccine for the current season fulfills the requirement. This includes injectable and nasal spray vaccine types.

The school immunization requirements, including the requirement for seasonal influenza vaccine, apply to all Massachusetts students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 12, regardless of whether the district is providing instruction in-person, or using a hybrid or remote learning model. The influenza immunization requirement also applies to all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child care, and pre-school.

Medical Exemptions- Please provide a statement from a physician stating that a vaccine is medically contraindicated for a student.

Religious Exemptions- Please provide a statement from a student, or parent/guardian if the student is <18 years of age, stating that a vaccine is against sincerely held religious beliefs.

Please provide medical or religious exemption letters to your child’s nurse.

Your child may receive their flu shot from their primary care provider- call for information and to schedule an appointment.

Another option for children 3 years and older is at a nearby pharmacy. Below is a list of local pharmacies who are listed as vaccine providers and a link to “Vaccine Finders”. Please call to confirm hours and availability of Influenza Vaccine.

ATHLETICS:

Hello Blue Knight Families

I hope everyone is safe and was able to enjoy their Thanksgiving. I have some wonderful news regarding winter athletics; Last night the Lunenburg School Committee voted to allow the sports that have been approved for the winter season by the MIAA to move forward here at Lunenburg. The sports that will be offered this winter season are:

· Boys Basketball (JV and Varsity)

· Girls Basketball (JV and Varsity)

· Boys Ice Hockey (JV and Varsity)

· Alpine Ski (pending finding an area to race v. other teams)

· Girls Ice Hockey (Varsity)

Similar to the fall season these sports have modifications within the sport itself and around the overall management and implementation for these sports to take place. I will be sending out another document with the specific details, guidelines, and protocols that have to be adhered to in order for our season to start and be able to be completed.

The winter season is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 14th. A sport-specific tryout schedule and times will be emailed by the end of next week. Please take the time to make sure you have registered your athlete(s) on FinalForms, Lunenburg Winter Sports Registration. In order to be eligible to try out the following need to be completed:

1. Athletes are registered on Final Forms by December 13th. The registration period has been open as of today. Both the parent/guardian and the athlete need to complete their portion of the registration process.

2. An updated health physical needs to be uploaded to final forms or turned in at the athletic mailbox at the main office.

3. Any fall uniforms or spectator passes that have not been returned will have to be turned in before the start of the winter season.

User fees do not have to be paid before the first day of tryouts/practice. Once the teams have been established user fees will need to be paid by Monday, January 4th.

Lastly, for those of you that are interested, I will be conducting a town hall zoom meeting for parents/guardians on Tuesday, December 8th at 6 pm via zoom. The link for the meeting is: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/75247087530?pwd=NGUvc21YOENoT0xDT0pJR3Q1akxxUT09

Thank you for your patience with this process, and thank you for your prompt attention to taking care of the requirements needed for your athlete to be eligible to participate.
