Two Week Look Ahead

Two Week Look Ahead - December 14, 2018

I want to wish everyone a happy, restful, and safe holiday season. With temperatures dropping please stay warm. It’s hard to believe that the winter break is almost here. Here are some events that just happened and some that will be happening.

Music Department

The Music department performed two concerts this week. On Tuesday, December 11, students in grades 6-12 put on Vocal Concert at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. It was a tremendous performance. They sang beautifully. On Thursday, December 13, the Instrumental Concert performed in grades 6-12. That concert was also at 7:00 pm. The bands were spectacular and the music they played was awesome to hear. All music students deserve high praise because the performances were exceptional and a joy to hear and watch.

Drama Club

The LHS Theater Club performed Don Zolidis’s play "Cheaters on December 6th and 7th in the LMHS Auditorium. This was a phenomenal performance. The play was a series of dramatic and comedic character interactions that depicts a high school classroom and the relationship between fellow students and their teachers. The students did a marvelous job and the acting was spot on. It was a great show.

Dance Information

** The semi-formal dance has been postponed to Saturday, January 5th, in the cafeteria from 7-9 pm. **

Social & Emotional Health

We have recognized that there is increased pressure and stress on our students in recent years. This stress can manifest itself in many different ways. Most times, the stress that we all deal with is normal and manageable. However, there are also many individuals who are dealing with more than just typical stress and pressure. Often times, those students are dealing with anxiety, depression, or another form of mental illness. We want to help to bring awareness to mental health concerns, let students know that there is help available if they need it, and work to debunk the stigma often associated with mental illness. If a student or any Lunenburg resident is struggling we have a resource in Lunenburg called Interface Referral Service for mental health referrals. The helpline number is 1-888-244-6843.

Library Website Updates

With the high school research season just around the corner, Mrs. Vallee wanted to direct students and parents to all the resources available on the new library website. There are links to finding books in our library, public libraries across the state, and even college & university libraries. The collection of subscription databases are organized by subject, and a list of passwords to access the databases from home can be opened using a school Google account. There are also research guides, citation guides, and a new section with resources about media literacy. There is a page of GSuite tutorials and guides if parents want to create a personal Gmail account and learn to use Google Docs, Drive and Calendar. You can also follow the LMHS library on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Visit https://sites.google.com/lunenburgschools.net/lmhs-library-media-center/home to access the new library website. And of course, students are always welcome to see Mrs. Vallee in the library whenever they need help with research, technology and other issues!

2022 Class Dues

Mrs. Vallee wanted to remind students and parents in the Class of 2022 that this year’s class dues will be $10 through December 21st. After Winter Break, class dues will increase to $15. Families may pay for all four years at once. If you have any questions or are unsure whether dues have been paid this year, please contact Mrs. Vallee at pvallee@lunenburgonline.com.

Yearbook

To receive the price of $60 for the Yearbook, please go to: www.yearbookforever.com and follow the prompts to Lunenburg High School. The price will increase to $65 after January 26. If you would like to personalize your book with a name stamp or icons you must do so by January 26. There is no guarantee that extra books will be available in June, so please be sure to order one.

Student Council

I am ecstatic to inform you that the High School Student Council raised $464 from selling baked goods at the Town Tree Lighting and from selling leftovers during school! STUCO will be donating 100% of those profits, plus an additional amount, to make a total donation of $500 directly to the Lions Club. This is the most STUCO has raised for the Lions Club. It has been a goal for the Student Council to help the Lunenburg Community in any way we can. As a council, we also helped prepare Thanksgiving Baskets run by the Lions Club. I wanted to keep you updated on this donation. We plan to have a photo taken with members of the Lions Club Friday 12/14/18 at 2:40 at the High School.

Gift Card Drive

This was such an awesome success. I want to thank everyone involved that made this drive happen. We raised $8050 for needy families in Lunenburg. This was a ton of work and so many groups contributed. Thank you all for making the holidays a little better for our Lunenburg Community.
